- It’s a Health Tracker not a Fitness Tracker
“…this is more than a Fitness Tracker, it’s a Health Tracker to help you manage your whole life.”
First, this is more than a Fitness Tracker, it’s a Health Tracker to help you manage your whole life. This is the core of Body Refined’s Lifestyle Management program.
Most trackers put the focus on your calorie burn, active minutes, steps and most recently, heart rate which is not very accurate on most wrist-based trackers. Most recently, companies have “fluffed” these trackers with the ability to receive text messages, emails, phone calls, etc. Thus, distracting you from the primary reason for wearing the tracker in the first place.
Don’t get me wrong, tracking your fitness has its benefits but that is a mere 1-2 hours of your day and that’s if you are engaging in some sort of exercise activity.
The Oura Ring helps you to focus on your full 24-hour day. Honing in on your quality of sleep and hourly activity to give you a daily readiness score.
Readiness considers how well you slept the night before, how well you’ve been sleeping over the past few nights, how well you balanced activity with rest the day before, your body temperature, resting heart rate and recovery index. Therefore, Helping you to focus your efforts on how ready you can be for the day, thus improving the management of your physical and mental energy.
“…the detailed reporting you will receive after a night’s rest is the most detailed sleep tracking, I have ever seen.”
Since the tracker is a Ring, it can track your heart rate at a place on your body where heart rate is most accessible. If you’ve been in the hospital or visited someone in the hospital, you may have noticed the heart rate monitor connected to their finger. It is the most ideal place to get an accurate reading of your heart rate because of the thin layer of your skin in that area, effectively giving you the most accurate measurement of your sleep.
The Oura ring gives you a detailed breakdown of your time in light sleep, deep sleep, REM and how long it took you to fall asleep. Most importantly, what sets it apart, is its ability to track your heart rate variability, resting heart rate and your body temperature as long as you are wearing the ring.
All of this is a wonderful indicator of overall physical well-being. Together, the detailed reporting you will receive after a night’s rest is the most detailed sleep tracking, I have ever seen. The summarized feedback is like hearing from your own personal health consultant. (Yikes, I may have to rethink recommending this.)
Unlike other trackers, the Oura Ring tracks your Heart Rate Variability (HRV). If you are not familiar with heart rate variability, just know, in short, it can basically tell you if you are stressed or relaxed; If you are in that fight or flight zone; or if you are rested and decompressed.
All this data is used to generate a “Recovery Index” score. This score tells you how long it takes for your heart rate to stabilize once you go to sleep.
“The app presents you with a daily activity goal based on how well you’ve been sleeping, how active you’ve been recently and how well you’ve been recovering.”
Yes, it tracks your steps, distance, and activity calories burned but you must understand that data is useless, unless you are a professional athlete. If a sport is your primary job or athletic competition is a large part of your life, then you will need that analysis to become better at that sport or exercise activity.
For the typical Jane or John Doe, those measurements do not help you to make the necessary adjustments to improve your overall health.
Instead the Oura ring detects the amplitude and intensity of your movement to determine if you’re active or inactive, tracking everything whether it is a workout, yard work, household chores or simply walking in the mall.
The Oura Ring also helps you balance activities so there’s enough action and rest throughout your week. The app presents you with a daily activity goal based on how well you’ve been sleeping, how active you’ve been recently and how well you’ve been recovering.
Because of that, the goal will change each day, which is ingenious as so many trackers tend to focus on a step or activity goal and expect you adhere to that goal, daily. Meanwhile, the Oura ring knows that you might have had a rough day (flu/cold, sinus infection, hungover) so it won’t expect much, whereas on another day you should be pushing yourself because the ring recognized you were well rested.
“….receive a $50 discount when you purchase this awesomely new, super accurate and intuitive wearable.”
It’s not hard, after reading the above, to see why the Oura Ring is the official wearable monitor for Body Refined members. This is a great-looking wearable, in a smaller profile (a ring), that’ll help you put more focus on what matters for your overall health in addition to the fitness goals. If you’re interested in improving sleep, finding out more about rest and how to optimize your life outside of the 1-2 hours you engaged in exercise, then you need the Oura Ring.
